Testimony: Joseph

The motto for Heartland Christian College (HCC) is “Prepare for Life!” When I attended HCC (Northeast Missouri Bible College at the time) I did not know what I was being prepared for. Initially I had planned to spend my life in full time ministry. For the first few years after graduation that is what I did, traveling as a recruiter for the college and then working at Heartland Children and Youth Homes which I thoroughly enjoyed.

While working in ministry, I had the opportunity to become certified in law enforcement. Through this experience I found my calling to serve as a full time police officer. HCC helped prepare me for this career. The biblical and spiritual foundation that I gained helped me stay strong and courageous in the midst of the darkness, violence and tragedy that is part of the job. The public speaking and leadership skills I learned helped me to succeed. I was awarded the 2012 Officer of the Year, promoted to Sergeant in 2014, and awarded the 2014 Sergeant of the Year. I continued my education and earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Liberty University, which accepted all of my HCC credits.

I have the privilege of attending a church in Casper, Wyoming where the pastor, worship leader, and several others are HCC alumni. My wife (also an alumnus) and I have the privilege to lead a home group in this church and I play bass guitar on the worship team, which is another skill I learned while in college. So no matter what the Lord calls you to do, HCC can help prepare you for life. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
