Students planning to attend HCC in the fall semester should contact the Registrar at 660-284-4800 to complete the enrollment process. Check-in and registration will be held Saturday, August 12th, with Orientation week August 13-20. The first day of classes will be August 21st.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Class sessions are scheduled to best meet the needs of the students and the College. The following structure is normally followed:

Semester-Long Courses: These courses meet throughout the entire semester. In general, the following types of courses are semester-long courses:

  • Monday night 3-hour courses: Meet most Monday nights of the semester for 3-hour class periods
  • Servanthood 1-hour courses: Meet once a week throughout the semester; class times vary from 1-2 hours depending on service projects
  • Select 1-hour Area of Concentration courses: Some courses in each area of concentration meet throughout the semester at arranged times; class times are approximately 1 hour in length with lab assignments that are completed outside of class time

Block Courses: These 3-hour courses meet in an 8-week block. Such courses are normally scheduled two days a week for 2.5 hours per class. Two sets of block courses are offered each semester.

  • Most 3-hour courses, other than those meeting on Monday nights, are offered in the block system

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Disciplines of Life. An overview of the most recognized disciplines of the Christian life, including prayer and Bible study. Special emphasis is placed on practicing the virtues demonstrated by Jesus.

Intro. to Christian Ministry. This course includes elements of theory and practice related to various aspects of Christian ministry. It deals with issues such as one’s call and gifting, leadership principles, pastoral care, and basic homiletics.

College Composition. An introductory study in critical reading and writing. Emphasis is placed on rhetoric and on the writing process of planning, drafting, and revising.

Ephesians. An introductory study of the local church in God’s plan, the structure and order of the New Testament church and the ministries of the local church and their functions.

Old Testament Studies I. A survey of the Pentateuch and the Historical books of the Old Testament. This survey includes an overview of geography, historic and thematic elements, and the central message of each book.

Bible Research. The use of research tools and methods along with insights and means of proper biblical interpretation are discussed.
